WHAT'S IT LIKE HAVING TWO MOMMIES?
"I want you to know that I think my family is great, so why don't you people just stop all this hate? I know that love comes right from the heart. My parents taught me love from the start."-Hannah Jurs-Allen, fifth-grader, daughter of lesbian parents

"My grandpa majored in biology in college, but he wasn't allowed to teach at a high school because he was black. Not long ago, I spoke on a panel at a high school with my mom. This guy in the audience told my mom that he wouldn't want her to teach his kids because she is a lesbian. It reminded me so much of what happened to my grandpa. I think homophobia is like any other 'ism.' It's the racism of today. Like racism, you learn it from the people you grow up with, from your parents, from television, and from society."-Rayna White, eleventh-grader, daughter of a lesbian mother

Lesbian Motherhood is becoming more and more common and along with it comes many struggles. I personally do not believe that homosexuality is right but I can’t be biased. I tried to think politically and not put too much of my personal opinion in this post. Here is a list of everyday struggles associated with Lesbian mothers.

FAMOUS LESBIAN MOTHERS

“It’s the best thing I do; it’s the greatest thing I do is to be a mom – it’s the most important thing I do." She added, “It really does require an awesome amount of patience and understanding of life and living in the now. They really bring you right into ‘But I want it now,’ and you have to take charge of what’s happening right this moment.Because kids are beautiful. Kids are very clear about what love is and love is love. There are no categories. There’s no right or wrong in love, it’s just there. All you have to do is explain to them, let them know that in the world there are all different types of families. And ours is a wonderful and unique, and not so unique, also there are many others like us. If you have that communication with them, they also have the answers for their friends. It’s so easy. Mothers come up to me all the time and say their kids come home and say, 'Why can’t I have two moms?' It’s just how you feel about it inside."~Melissa Etheridge
